Jim, Bellagio, Italy 2001JIM DWYER was born March 4, 1970 and grew up on Cape Cod, MA.  He received a BFA degree in Writing and Photography at Emerson College in Boston. It was while studying at Emerson that he met director Todd Verow and began to collaborate on the feature film script of Frisk (Sundance, Berlin, and Toronto ’96). Frisk whet Dwyer’s appetite for screenwriting and producing (he had initially worked as a still photographer on various low budget indie flicks.) Due to its controversial reception, Frisk was a baptism of fire that both Dwyer and Verow arose from stronger, with a clearer sense of their artistic conviction and vocation.

For the award winning features LITTLE SHOT OF HAPPINESS (Berlin, SXSW, Mill Valley ’97) and SHUCKING THE CURVE (No Dance ’99, [d] vision 2000), Dwyer  and Verow formulated an approach to filmmaking that they felt more comfortable with than the strict definitions of “standard”  film crews and production house organizations. An approach that would allow them to break and make rules on their own terms. Digital video and emerging internet and computer technologies would factor heavily in their modus operandi.
Dwyer has a hand in all aspects of Bangor Films. From film "scripts," titles, to characters, dialog, plots and soundtracks themselves, to the design of film posters and as the webmaster of www.bangorfilms.com, Dwyer is behind the scenes- yet his influence is everywhere in the Bangor Films' scene. His “Home Town” concept with Verow yields the NYUFF Choice Award Winner/ CUFF Silver Prize winner/No Dance winner  THE TROUBLE WITH PERPETUAL DÉJÀ VU shot in his hometown of South Yarmouth.

Other award winning films include: A SUDDEN LOSS OF GRAVITY, set in Verow’s hometown of Bangor, and World Premiered at the 50th Berlin International Film Festival and ONCE & FUTURE QUEEN which premiered in Europe at the 53rd Locarno International Film Festival.

Jim is almost always in pre-production for Todd Verow’s numerous projects. He recently attended the World Premiere of Verow's Berlin fugue TAKE-AWAY in Chicago and is now writing voice-overs for THE FINAL GIRL starring Brenda Velez. Jim has written articles for Filmmaker magazine, insound.com, reel.com and Ifilm. His photography has appeared in numerous national and international publications including the New York Times, Screen and Variety. He is also finding time to pen his first novel, COMMERCIAL SMILE.
